A Comprehensive Session on “Orientation On Mechanical Ventilation in Critical Care” was Recently held in DHQ Teaching hospital Mirpur Conference hall. The attendees were Post graduate residents, House officers, Nursing students and other healthcare workers. During this session, the first speaker Dr Nadeem Ahmed Khan, HOD Anesthesiology, at DHQH Mirpur gave insights about Fundamentals of mechanical ventilation. He described the common indications of ventilation,
the Volume-controlled and pressure-controlled settings, the importance of team work in critical care and important troubleshooting techniques.
The second speaker Dr Yusra Kafait, Pediatrician DHQH Mirpur having expertise in pediatric intensive care, shared her expertise on pediatric mechanical ventilation. While discussing the ventilator modes commonly used in pediatric age group, she discussed the applicability and use of each mode in
children, the complexity of pediatric respiratory demand and the important techniques involved in weaning off ventilatory support in the pediatric patients. she elaborated the unique challenges and considerations involved in managing the pediatric group of patients in intensive care.
The session was concluded by MS DHQ Hospital mirpur, who appreciated the keen interest shown by the attendees , and concluded the session by emphasizing the multidisciplinary approach to mechanical ventilation, involving intensivists, respiratory therapists and nurses besides the physicians and surgeons.
